Gun control is a very controversial issue right now. And with all of the recent shootings, this has brought up the topic of teachers carrying guns in school. If this was allowed, think what could have been different in Connecticut or California if teachers were allowed to bear guns.

This would cause much more procedures for becoming a teacher. There would have to be proper gun training, background checks, and even if the person can handle it. But that raises another problem, should it be mandatory or optional? Some might not want to have a gun because they believe it could cause even more problems with the children.

There are many views about this; is it worth it or would it cause even more deaths? Personally I think it would save many more lives. When a teacher has access to a gun and a stranger has come to shoot up the school the teacher is now equipped with the proper tool to make sure students are safe.

Guns themselves are very controversial, so when you add schools, teachers, and students to the equation the conversation can quickly become heated and out of control.

I asked math teacher Mr. Adams what he thought about this situation and he said, “No, not because of some other person from the outside but the teachers. Teachers work under a lot of stress and stress plus guns don’t mix.”

After questioning sophomore Blake Ryan he said, “Yes if it is in their purse or their desk but not if they carry it around with them on their person.”

So share your voice, do you think a gun on school/campus is an intelligent decision to make or would it be smarter to keep guns to the resource officer? There can and will be many different views on this topic. If you feel compelled enough you might even want to write a letter to congress.
