There are countless judgments about people with tattoos: “Your body is a temple.” “You won’t get employed.” “It makes you look trashy.” “You’ll regret it someday.”
There are so many things that we have grown up hearing and seeing that we don’t question or ponder on what we think, we simply give in to the popular opinion.
“Your body is a temple.” This is a bible verse in case you don’t know. The verse is a good one but I doubt it was referring to tattoos. To me it is simply decorating your God-given temple.
“You won’t get employed.” You know, maybe you won’t. But I doubt it is because of something you have on your body. I don’t understand how tattoos could make someone less qualified for a job or position because of something inked on their skin.
Of course if it’s the coke logo on your forehead and you work for Pepsi, I could understand the reasoning in that but a drawing, design or word tattooed on them? If your skills and abilities and talents show enough then you will most likely get the job you’re applying for and make them see that a tattooed person doesn’t mean “stupid” or “incompetent.”
“It makes you look trashy.” This might be the most hilarious of them all. Tattoos have been common for ages upon ages, even before the modern era. It was seen as a symbol of honor and wealth. It was a symbol of religion and social rank, a rite of passage. Take that America (or society or whoever).
“You’ll regret it someday.” Maybe. Maybe you won’t. If it means a lot to you then you should get it. Maybe you’ll regret who you marry one day, or that haircut you got, or your major in college. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go for it.
It all comes down to choices and being wise about them. Get a tattoo, embrace it and love it. It shows the world a piece of you on the surface. Tattoos are a beautiful creation and don’t let the world make you feel ashamed about having them or wanting them. The world is full of crap. J
