In times like these, where innocent people suffer pain and loss, it’s hard to think it will all be okay.

As I sat at work yesterday, I watched as the amount injured in the Boston Explosion climbed from 23 to 73 to 130. I watched as elderly people with bloodied up limbs were wheeled off with expressions of agony. I watched as hopeful teenagers and young adults were wheeled away with bloodied faces and mangled body parts. Many would say there is no hope, that our world is a crazy horrible place and continues to increase in such a way.
The truth is our world is crazy horrible…if you choose to see it that way. When I hear about these kinds of things it makes me extremely sad but it gives me a sort of motivation.
I promise you I’m not a sick person who wants to see the world burn. I mean motivation that I, we, us, can be the change. Gandhi said “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” And it is one of the most truthful statements I’ve yet to hear. If you think something sucks, if you think something should be different- change it. We are a broken up world and I refuse to live a cookie cutter suburb lifestyle full of taking my children to school and soccer practice and cooking dinner at night and watching American Idol on Wednesdays while people aren’t so comfortable somewhere. I refuse to sit by and see all the hurt in all of the parts of the world and not do anything about it.
People are the single-handedly most important thing in the world. We MUST look after each other. Why should we fight for our country, for OUR rights? Why aren’t we fighting for our world and for all the people? We all breathe, sleep and eat (if we’re lucky). We all live under the same sky. We are all humans.
The bottom line is the world is a hopeless place if you choose to see it that way. Or you could choose to see it as an invitation to shape it. The choice is yours.
I hope you’ll pick the right one.
