All people have their own release for negative feelings to get into a better mood. For instance, some people read books, while others (older adults, or even in the worst case scenario, younger teens) drink heavily. How do you release your negative feelings?
I like to read, listen to music, and go to local hardcore shows.
This specific music genre branched off of other genres in the late 1980s/early 1990s. It started from some kids just trying to express their emotions to other people.
I don’t really know why, but just being around the music and the people helps me forget my worries, and things that make me angry for a few hours. The atmosphere is what I get pumped up for. It’s a great feeling knowing that other people feel hardcore a I do.
If I know a show is coming up somewhere around my area, I’ll start saving my money, gather a bunch of my close friends, fill up my gas tank, grab food and drink and make my way.
My first show was at a smaller music venue/warehouse type thing. HUNDREDTH and HEY DUDE! (Myrtle Beach Locals) were playing and I had been listening to their music for a while, so I had the just of what their music was about.
As I saw other people enjoying themselves with friends, good laughs, and music I started to think to myself, “Wow, this is incredible,” and I had instantly fallen in love. I grew up listening to (Slipknot, Korn, etc) so hardcore grew on me at an incredible pace.
Since, then my life has been pretty gnarly. I’ve seen some of the craziest things at shows, ambulances, fights, busted faces, pepperspray it’s ridiculous. I’ve started bands, and ended them as well. I actually started a band recently, and my fingers are crossed that things will pick up soon and we will start playing shows.
Hardcore shows may seem a little risky, but in all actuality it is nothing but fun and games. Everyone has their own form of release for their negative energy, hardcore is mine.
